Spotlight Jazz: West Side Story

Ende der weiteren Informationen

The new format of the Frankfurt Radio Big Band "Spotlight Jazz" was already a great success at its first edition. The look behind the scenes, the many questions like "How does a big band work?", "What does a musician in the band do?" - is a crowd-pleaser. We are happy to be able to work with a great charismatic to the audience for the next edition. Trombonist Nils Landgren will give you interesting insights into "West Side Story". Immerse yourself in one of the most famous musical works of the 20th century. Composer Leonard Bernstein would surely have liked it!

West Side Story

Ende der weiteren Informationen

It is the story of two youth gangs in 1950s New York who fight for supremacy in their neighborhood. The conflict, the poor conditions and the frustration about this lead to entanglements that end as a tragedy.

The fact that "West Side Story" became one of the most famous musicals in history is due to its literary model "Romeo and Juliet" and above all to the music of Leonard Bernstein. Bernstein is considered a border crosser between classical, modern and the jazz of his time.

With his version for large jazz orchestra, Jörg Achim Keller has rewritten Bernstein's music for the Swedish trombonist and singer Nils Landgren and the Frankfurt Radio Big Band.

Rheingau Musik Festival: Wolfgang Haffner

Ende der weiteren Informationen

Wolfgang Haffner is one of the most sought-after German musicians. If you focus it on the drummers, then it is certainly not presumptuous to say that he is internationally the most famous among them. Haffner is a two-time ECHO Jazz award winner and the list of artists with whom he has already collaborated is long. It all started with the band of trombonist Albert Mangelsdorff - today it's names like Gregory Porter, Pat Metheny, Klaus Doldinger or even the Fantastischen Vier that he can boast of.

But Wolfgang Haffner is not only a "drummer", he is also an excellent composer, and so there will also be a new program with works by him for the meeting with the Frankfurt Radio Big Band. Be curious what Jörg Achim Keller will arrange from it for the band and its star guest!
