2013 konnte sie als erste Frau die "Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition" für sich entscheiden. Mit Jim McNeely verbindet Melissa Aldana eine langjährige musikalische Freundschaft. Denn auch die Saxofonistin ist seit Jahren fester Bestandteil der New Yorker Jazzszene.
Nach den erfolgreichen Konzerten in der letzten Saison kehrt sie nun zur hr-Bigband zurück. Zusammen geht es für zwei Konzertabende nach Aschaffenburg und Rüsselsheim.

It all began with Sonny Rollins: When Melissa Aldana heard him play for the first time, she wanted nothing more than play the tenor saxophone. Thanks to her unique sound, the 34-year-old has meanwhile become a sought-after jazz musician herself. In 2013, she was the first woman to win the "Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition". Like McNeely, Aldana is firmly anchored in New York’s jazz scene. Both have thus been musical colleagues and friends for a long time. After the successful concerts of the past season, the saxophone player now returns to the Frankfurt Radio Bigband. Together they travel to Aschaffenburg and Rüsselsheim for two concerts.
